Starting a Web business ... I won't claim to make you rich overnight. Beware of those who do. I can show you how to get started, increase your profits and save money.
True education is the slow realization of how much you don’t know. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but I can tell you how to start an internet (web) business. Although I'm still learning myself, I am a retired information systems professional which means I have 20 years of IT experience and have the time to research this material. The information in the public area is free. I have tried or am using all that I recommend. Are they a good fit for you? That depends on what you want and how much you intend to spend. These web profit solutions or if you prefer internet profit solutions are meant to keep your startup costs down.
First - you will need a web site. It is quite easy and inexpensive to get a site up and running.
If you already have a web site built or plan to build your own, the link at the left will take you to an inexpensive and reliable host that I use. StartLogic is the best in my opinion, $3.95 a month (PersonalLogic package), free set up, $8.95 (per year) domain name registration. You can easily build your own website with WYSIWYG Web Builder.
You can choose and (if you wish) register your domain name Here.
The Rich Jerk has an easy package starting at $9.95. He also offers a "free" website. It's true the website and setup are free but there is a charge to host your site and an additional charge to register your domain (web site) name. This is how I started. The ebook is good.
Comment: I found the website editing capabliity too restrictive.
Stone Evans' Host4Profit is another easy starting point. Same as above, there is a charge to host your site and to register your domain (web site) name.
Comment: I found the hosting charge to be exorbitant so I transferred my domain to StartLogic and started using WYSIWYG Web Builder.
WYSIWYG Web Builder is very easy to use. It's completely drag and drop, you don't need to code anything. The software is intuitive and the help is excellent. They offer a 30 day free trial and the software is fully functional. If you wish to buy, it is a very reasonable $39.95. Go to my download page and grab the free template of this site if you like or choose from Pablo's many free templates Here. Also download my free publishing setup instructions.
For those of you who never created or published a website, I could go through a long dissertation. Fortunately that won't be necessary. Chris Farrell has already done it with his excellent free video course, A Successful Web Business explained.
Second - you will need a product. Affiliate promotion is the product of this site. This simply means that large internet companies are willing to pay me a commission for sales if you buy through one of my links. You can click these links to sign up as an affiliate for Host4Profit (You make $10.00 each referral), Leisure Audio Books , Nitro Affiliates , ClickBank , ClixGalore and LinkShare. Become a ClickBank affiliate and you can start your own store like this MyClickBank Store .
The last five are free to join and they represent 100s of retailers and marketing experts. Choose the ones you like. You can sign up with me for free also.
All sites listed here have been tested and are legitimate. Be careful not to sign up for anything where it costs a lot to maintain your status. For instance, I belonged to one affiliate network that cost about $30 a month to maintain a ranking and was receiving an $8 paycheck. Not a good deal in my book.
Another good product is information. Consider becoming a member and gain access to a library of information, ebooks, articles, software and tools. Many are rebrandable with your own links etc. Click Here to learn more.
This link will take you to an offer for free resale rights to 200 top products.
Third - you need to generate traffic to your site. There in lies (as the British call it) "the sticky wicket". There are literally millions of web sites out there. EngineSeeker has many tools to help, like submitting your site to internet search engines. The "catch 22" is you can't make money unless you're seen and you can't be seen unless people know about you. I've seen packages guaranteeing visibility for as much as $695.00. Too much for me.
If you want some free targeted traffic, Take a look at my "Free Traffic Tricks" It's my own publication revealing ways top gurus get traffic.
Another good way to generate traffic is with a banner exchange. See example below from Link Buddies (free to join). You can use their facility to create your banner(s) or see FAQ for more.
PS This site is hosted by
Start Logic.
The banner to the left will take you to EngineSeeker.com an inexpensive promoter that I also use. You can submit your site(s) to search engines, see your traffic, where it's coming from and what pages are looked at. They offer 24-7 access to 15 Online Marketing and Analysis tools. "Top Ten Listing" which guarantees positions in over 260 search engines (Not Pay-Per-Click) and targets your audience by keyword(s). They also have an affiliate program which is free to join.
AdlandPro will submit your site to over 80,000 directories. Just fill in the form. Your email address is required so that you can confirm the order.
Quick Start 1 OK, don't have time to build a website? Emails (not spam) are an effective marketing method and can generate a nice income. I have compiled a comprehensive listing of marketing email service providers, including Alexa ratings and prices. So, Click Here to access my list of opt-in email providers and join one ($20). Click Here to join ClickBank (free) or join one of the other affiliate centers above. Next begin promoting products with emails (no website required). Free videos on how to create good promo emails are Here.
Quick Start 2 Promote someone else's business. Plenty of businesses are willing to give you a "clone" of their website on which you earn a commission for everything sold through your link. Join TrafficSwarm (free) and browse away. You will soon see many of these sites. You can promote through TrafficSwarm or the email route outlined above. Many pay via PayPal so I suggest joining (it's free).
Finally Keep your mind open to new ideas. Read a lot (you can start with my free e-books on the download page) but don't believe everything you see. Beware of high pressure sales tactics. They are just trying to hook you before you have a chance to think. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There are more "get rich quick" schemes out there than pills in a drug store. Most are scams. Yes, they sound good, have beautiful websites and claim to be the holy grail of internet businesses. Believe me there is always a catch. Just know what it is and then decide if you can live with it.
This will take some time so be persistent. Use your profits to promote your site. That way, your other half won't yell too much.
Life is short,
Try, learn and enjoy the ride.
